  1. What will happen if I configure my computer correctly?

    1. You can view your site by pointing your browser to http://yourdomain.com.
    2. You can FTP your site using any FTP program via the hostname: ftp.yourdomain.com.
    3. You can publish using FrontPage.
    4. You can send e-mails using your e-mail address username@yourdomain.com but you can't receive e-mail from outside accounts. You need to send yourself an e-mail if you want to test your POP account and POP server.

  2. Why do I need to do this?

Webfreebie servers save your information even though your domain name is not yet registered. We give you the advantage of viewing your website as if it's already online.

You just need to configure your computer to point to Webfreebie's server. To do this, you have to edit your 'Hosts Table' because your computer checks it first before it checks the DNS for the corresponding IP address of a domain name.

Suppose your hosts table has the following information:

    206.112.88.44 yourdomain.com

206.112.88.44 is the IP Address of the Webfreebie server. This means that yourdomain.com is configured to point to Webfreebie. If this line is not in the host table, then the computer will look for yourdomain.com outside Webfreebie server s.
